Engineering is mired in the down and dirty nature of reality which often makes a nonsense out of the predictions from science theory. Engineers generally perform their heroic deeds despite, and not because of, the theories of science.
So far in this book we’ve mainly concerned ourselves with harder sciences like physics and have tried to show all the problems that messy reality throws up to undermine theory. Now, however, we’re going to look at the ‘softer’ and therefore more intrinsically difficult end of science and delve into the world of medicine and its even messier blood and guts reality.
